Great chia seed
By Dr. M. A. Dixon
I definitely prefer the Now Foods chia seeds over the Greens+ chia seed which has a strange odor I have never smelled on another chia seed and tastes chemically; Greens+ must have sprayed them with something or maybe it is absorbing something from the plastic canister, I do not know.

CHIA SEED BENEFITS FOR YOUR HEALTH
Chia is an evidence-based registered variety of Salvia hispanica L. and is nutritionally superior to flax and soy. Chia is the richest non-marine whole food source of Omega-3 and dietary fiber currently known to man.
Promotes Cardiovascular Health:
According to the American Heart Association, Omega-3 fatty acids can normalize blood pressure and bad cholesterol levels, while helping promote healthy heart and blood vessels.
Assists Joint Function & Mobility:
With six times more calcium than milk, and with greater amounts of high-quality protein than the one found in soy, Chia also helps strengthen muscles and bones.
Improves Digestion & Natural Detoxification:
Chia can absorb a whopping 12+ times its weight in water - flax seed only absorbs 6-8 times its weight. Chia's insoluble fiber reduces digestive transit time and removes toxins as it passes through the digestive tract.
Supports Healthy Weight Loss:
Chia's high fiber content and its ability to reduce blood sugar levels after meals inhibits the appetite, thus making it the perfect food for healthy, effective weight loss. Thanks to its neutral flavor and color, Chia integrates seamlessly into any healthy recipe.

If this isn't a super food, I don't know what is....
By 1912 House
I did a lot of research on chia seed before signing up for a monthly shipment from amazon's Subscribe & save program. This is white chia seed, and I have no preference over white or black, but there are some black seeds in these packages...some people claim they can taste the difference, but I find that hard to believe. I have extra an extra sensitive nose, and taste buds from years of serious cooking.
Read some of the history about native Central Americans using chia seed to sustain them while running messages over long distances. Chia seeds stay fresh for 5-10+ years, depending on how they are stored. They do not go rancid like flax seed, and they are MUCH more palatable than fish oil. Much higher in Omega-3s than fish oil or flax seed, they can be mixed into pretty much anything, either whole, ground, or as a gel (made from water and seeds). Putting just a tablespoon of this in my oatmeal in the morning and I am feeling "full" until dinnertime. One cautionary note - if you have a sensitive digestive system (like me) start slow with the chia seeds. I started with about a teaspoon of the gel in my oatmeal....now I put in about 1/4 cup in my oatmeal - can't taste it at all. In fact, I've not tasted the seeds in anything I've added them to. Keep in mind that one of the actions of chia seeds are that it helps a person not to be dehydrated - this is why the natives where able to run long distances without a lot of water through desert-type conditions. Chia seeds are a great emergency food to add to your emergency stash of water, flashlights, batteries, etc...we rotate our stock, first in first out, and keep about a three month supply for the whole family. Chia is usually available in bulk, or pre-packaged at the local health food store/co-op, but Amazon S&S has the best price I've found. Oh, and one more IMPORTANT point - People love to charge more for so-called "organic" chia seed. Chia is one of the hardiest plants in the world, naturally disease-resistant and hardy....it is NATURALLY organic because the farmers don't have to treat it for pests, or to make it grow faster. It grows wild all over the western and central Americas on its own. So don't pay extra for organic in this case,

White Chia Seeds Are Harder to Find!
Although there are many sources of the regular (dark) chia seeds, you have to look a little harder to find the white ones. Some people perceive a difference in taste between the two types of chia seeds, while others don't. I make the Tarahumara energy drink from chia seeds, water and lime juice, and people who don't know what it is seem to react a lot more positively to it when it's made from the white seeds. I like the way Swanson packages its white chia seeds better than the bag that the Now brand uses; you can re-use the Swanson bottle to seal and store chia seeds from other brands.
